NC State University spearheads a transformative initiative that bridges the gap between education and employment and revitalizes rural communities. The Rural Works! Internship Program connects students with meaningful internships with organizations in rural areas, fostering community development and empowering the next generation of leaders.
About Rural Works! Internship Program
Rural Works! supports NC State’s commitment to social, economic, and technological development across North Carolina by offering an engaging internship experience for high-caliber engineering students who work with employers in rural communities. The program is designed to address the unique challenges faced by rural communities, where access to internships and professional development opportunities can be limited.
The Rural Works! Internship Program is different from other college internships. This program offers an engineering participation stipend award for employers in rural communities hosting interns in the field of engineering. If a rural company agrees to pay the intern $15 per hour, NC State University will pay the engineering student an additional $10 making the internship opportunity at your facility competitive with internships in larger, more urban areas in the state to attract top candidates.
Easy to Participate
Get started by submitting an Employer Interest Form before March 31, 2024. The earlier you register to participate, the larger the candidate pool and greater the opportunity to match an intern’s profile with your company. REGISTER TODAY!
Then the NC State University Industry Expansion Solutions Regional Manager in your community will assist you, from creating internship descriptions, to developing interview questions and onboarding the intern. Your Regional Manager will follow up with you through the duration of the internship and at the end of the program to receive feedback.
