Bio
Michael Mercer is an Advanced Manufacturing Specialist at NC State University Industry Extension Services, where he is responsible for managing IES - SMARTER NC grant projects and assisting companies with CESMII SMART Manufacturing Roadmapping. With over 6 years of experience in the aerospace and manufacturing sector, he has successfully retrofitted and implemented multiple right-sized pieces of production equipment, assisted internal development of collaborative automation best practices, and currently holds 4 patents.
Prior to his current role, he assisted a small family-owned textile factory in Winston-Salem, NC, with 3D-printed prototyping, sensor/software integration, and digital dashboard development to improve overall visibility across siloed functions within the company. He holds a Mechanical Engineering B.S. from Montana State University.
Outside of the office, Michael is an avid golfer and loves to attend sporting events, read, and play video games.
