Highland Composites is NC’s Newest Aerospace Supplier
Highland Composites was recently awarded its AS 9100C registration, which is an aerospace standard based on ISO 9001 quality management system requirements. After partnering with IES, Highland Composites was able to implement all required aspects of an AS 9100C certified quality management system in less than 12 months, from project kickoff to Stage 2 audit.
Asheville’s Hidden Treasure: the Minerals Research Laboratory
One of the oldest establishments in Asheville’s trendy South Slope neighborhood, NC State’s 70-year old Minerals Research Laboratory marches to the beat of its own drummer. The MRL has never wavered in its mission to contribute success to the mining industry in NC; these days, the MRL engineers success for its clients through three types of projects: corporate, state-sponsored, and educational.
NC Manufacturing in 2015: Output is good, but lack of skilled workers remains an obstacle
The North Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NCMEP), part of a federal program to help small and medium-sized manufacturers remain competitive and grow and administered by IES, has collected survey data from NC manufacturers on the challenges they believe impact their business. Fifty-two percent of NC counties are represented in the resulting data, which reveals that finding skilled hourly workers and technical workers is perceived as a serious challenge, along with US regulations and the rising cost of healthcare.
Manufactured in NC Website Brings Together Hurricane Relief Efforts
Robeson County residents were eager to help residents in neighboring counties who had suffered through catastrophic floods brought by Hurricane Matthew. But they were lacking one critical resources: large, pallet-sized boxes to pack their donations in. ManufacturedNC.com, a public online directory of locally made products, helped save the day.

IES Lends a Hand to Habitat
We spent two days working with Habitat for Humanity on its Build-A-Block campaign, which will result in the construction of 11 townhouses off of Lake Wheeler Road, in Raleigh. Build-A-Block is the largest collaboration between a Habitat campus chapter and a Habitat for Humanity affiliate, and its success depends upon the participation of NC State students and employees.
