About This Course:
This course meets the off-site training requirements of OSHA’s HAZWOPER Standard – specifically 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(3)(i) and 29 CFR 1926.65(e)(3)(i) for those personnel considered to be general site workers who are engaged in hazardous substance removal or other activities which expose or potentially expose them to hazardous substances and health hazards on site.
Recommended for:
HAZWOPER: Personnel who will be performing work at hazardous waste sites (such as equipment operators, general laborers and supervisory personnel) who will be exposed or potentially exposed to hazards on site. Please note that this course is designed for hazardous waste site workers and NOT for emergency response personnel.
Participants will:
- Receive training as required by 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(3)(i) and 29 CFR 1926.65(e)(3)(i)
- Employ critical thinking skills and demonstrate practical abilities in regard to working at hazardous waste sites
Topics include:
- Environmental laws and regulations
- Hazard awareness, recognition, and identification
- Site safety and control
- Work plans; and safety and health plans
- Medical monitoring
- Personal protective equipment selection, care, and use
- Monitoring and sampling equipment
- Confinement, control, and cleanup
- Decontamination procedures
- Incident command system
- Emergency response planning
Additional Information:
Participants should dress comfortably for outdoor training evolutions and wear closed-toe shoes. During some HAZWOPER exercises, participants may wear chemical protective clothing that may lead to stressful situations for certain individuals. The wearing of chemical protective clothing is not required, however full attendance in the class is required for successful course completion. Individuals who are not currently participating in a medical surveillance program should consult their physician before attending this course.
