About This Course:
This course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge to understand the specific hazards associated with arch flash and electrical energy, possible injuries from the exposure to those hazards, emphasis on safety-related work practices and procedures to provide them protection associated with their respective jobs and task assignments.

Recommended for:
This course is designed for anyone who works on or near energized electrical equipment (maintenance personnel, facility electricians, equipment technicians etc.) or safety personnel who implement safety and health programs and practices for businesses and industries (owners, supervisors, managers etc).

Participants will:

  • Discuss the hazards and injuries associated with electrical shock, arc flash & blast
  • Understand the relationship between OSHA and NFPA 70E
  • Understand ARC ratings, NFPA 70E and OSHA requirements for electrical personal protective equipment (PPE) 
  • Identify an electrical safe work condition and safety-related work practices
  • Describe safe practices for meter use

Topics Include:

  • Understanding arc flash electrical hazards
  • Introduction to NFPA 70E 
  • How electrical safety applies to your workplace
  • Implementing electrical safe work program and practices
  • Conducting Lockout/Tagout
  • Reviewing the hazard assessments required
  • Determining the approach boundaries using the tables
  • Discussing alternative methods of determining Arc Flash Clothing and PPE
