About This Course:
Successful completion of this course results in participants becoming OSHA-authorized trainers in OSHA’s Outreach Training Program for the Construction Industry. Authorized trainers can conduct both 10-hour and 30-hour construction industry classes that provide training to workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards in workplaces along with information regarding workers’ rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a workplace safety complaint. OSHA-authorized trainers are able to issue 10 and 30-hour course completion cards to participants.
During the course, students will work with a partner to develop a presentation and teach an assigned OSHA Construction Industry Outreach topic, and successfully pass a written exam. Participants will be provided with a variety of training materials and resources.
- OSHA 510 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry (Please note, the 30-hour Construction OSHA outreach class is not considered equivalent to OSHA 510. Also, this course must have been completed in the last 7 years. If you completed the course longer than 7 years ago, then you will need to retake it in order to qualify.)
- Five (5) years of construction industry safety experience in a supervisory/leadership role documented on our prerequisite verification form.
A completed and signed Prerequisite Verification Form must be uploaded UPON REGISTRATION in the cart and a copy of the OSHA 510 certificate completed prior to the OSHA 500 must be uploaded in REPORTER in the pending items area (found under the “Courses and Events” tile on your home page) in order to confirm eligibility for this class. If you have questions about your eligibility, please email us at iesregistration@ncsu.edu. Please note, you must be approved with BOTH prerequisites to be eligible to take the course. If you are taking a prerequisite OSHA 510 course that takes place 2 weeks or less prior to the OSHA 500, your prerequisite experience form will still be due UPON REGISTRATION, but you can leave the OSHA 510 pending and indicate your 510 completion date on your experience form. We will need the copy of the certificate immediately upon completion should you be taking the OSHA 510 within such close proximity of the OSHA 500. Please reach out to us for further information.
