Take Note

A Letter from the Director

As we gratefully begin to take our lunches outdoors again, it’s easy to let the sunshine fool us into thinking that winter hazards are out of the way for another year. But remember, spring is unpredictable! Job sites can still be slick, slippery and dangerous, or in the Southeast, hot and uncomfortable, even before the spring showers begin. Keep in mind that OSHA considers it your responsibility to protect workers from weather-related hazards like cold stress and heat stress. Remind your workers to dress in layers, stay dry, and monitor themselves and one another closely for signs of weather-related stress.

The weather changes rapidly in the Southeast. In our next edition, we’ll be encouraging you to participate in a Heat Illness Prevention Stand Down during May 22–24, 2017.

Stay warm.  And cool.

Wendy Laing
